Who are the Award-Winning Tropic Skincare?

Susie’s Early Inspirations

When Susie Ma was growing up in Cairns in Tropical North Queensland, Australia, the idea that she would later become the Founder of the award-winning Tropic Skincare was unlikely to have been on her mind. Nevertheless, her early inspirations were undoubtedly being formed.

Her grandmother, who was a medicinal chemist and toxicologist, had played a major role in this. She had taught Susie that, in much the same way as our bodies needed healthy food, so did our skin.

Further inspiration came naturally from her tropical surroundings, where an abundance of fresh and exotic natural ingredients were always to hand. This in itself would later have a huge impact on the products Susie would create.

Tropic Beginnings

Susie’s family moved to London, and realising that her mother was struggling to pay the bills, Susie naturally wanted to help. So in 2004 she created her first batch of fifty jam jars of freshly made body scrubs, which she sold from a stall in Greenwich Market, London. Whilst still at school, Susie devoted her evenings and weekends to formulating recipes and making products to sell at markets across London. Still working from her mother’s kitchen, she had a growing customer base, along with having additional products in her range.

Her big break came in 2011 when she appeared on BBC’s The Apprentice, finishing in second place. Lord Alan Sugar was so impressed by Susie and her products, that he offered to invested and subsequently become a 50/50 partner in her Tropic business. It was on 4th May 2013 that Susie launched her social selling business platform with 400 founding Ambassadors. Her mission was to empower people to build their own green beauty businesses, to take charge of their earnings and to encourage healthier, cleaner beauty.

This mission proved very successful as today Tropic has over 16,000 Ambassadors, a figure which continues to rise. Her business has also been recognised by The Sunday Times Virgin Atlantic Fast Track 100 as being one of the UK’s fastest-growing skincare brands with over a 150 products in this award-winning range encompassing skincare, body care, sun care, hair care and makeup.

Tropic’s Infinite Purpose!



Plants and fruits that grow in tropical climates soak up an abundance of sunshine, which helps them flourish. Tropic believes that these plants are the most nutritious and beneficial for the skin. All Tropic products are freshly made on a daily basis in their Surrey beauty kitchen using only fresh, premium and natural ingredients like nourishing seed butters, juicy fruit extracts, and aromatic essential oils.


Tropic will always strive to remain ahead of the curve in natural ingredient research. Their formulations are supercharged with cutting-edge ingredients such as bio-retinol and plant ceramides, all embracing the latest green technologies. Tropic want to give back to the planet and aim to do as much as possible to minimise our environmental impact, leading the way in creating more sustainable options within the beauty industry.

In an industry that often overlooks animal welfare and the environment, Tropic has promised never to test on animals, including the use of any derivatives that would cause them distress. For this reason they stand with Cruelty Free International, The Vegan Society and PETA as a 100% cruelty-free brand, a practice which will unquestionably never change.

Tropic are also a certified CarbonNeutral company, and they invest in conservation projects in order to double-offset their carbon emissions. They are also working to make more of their packaging refillable to further reduce waste.


Education empowers children, opening the way for them to access better jobs and higher incomes later in life. Education should not be a privilege – it is a human right. That is why Tropic are working with United World Schools to help make the dream of every child having access to education a reality. Every Tropic order goes towards educating a child in Cambodia, Myanmar or Nepal, who otherwise would not have access to education. Every £50 spent (excluding delivery) will fund a day of education where it is needed most.
